Comedians to take the stage for Joplin

Some nationally recognized comedians are get ready to take the stage in Joplin.  The lineup for “Stand Up for Joplin” gathered today with officials at the Taylor Performing Arts Center.

Proceeds will go to Joplin schools and the tornado relief fund.

Yakov Smirnoff will headline the Tuesday night’s performance.  Other performers include David Koechner who played a news anchor in the movie “Anchorman”.

“It filled my heart to hear how many agencies came out and how many people from Missouri and helped right away,” Koechner says.  “People here in the Midwest grab a shovel and go.  So my axe handle is comedy.”

“I think Joplin is going to rebuild better than ever,” says Smirnoff.  “I think people want new things and it will be an opportunity to create something new and I think that is why I am excited and the other comedians are excited.”

Again, Stand Up for Joplin will take place tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Missouri Southern.  There is no cost to attend.
