Domestic disturbance call prompts text alert to Pittsburg State students

Updated at 3:18 PM CST:  Crawford County, Kansas sheriff deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on the east side of Pittsburg near Quincy this afternoon.

When they arrived it was reported that a man and woman were fighting and a man had left the scene.  Sheriff Sandy Horton says there appeared to be no evidence of any injuries.

Investigators did notify PSU authorities that a man involved in the case might be in the area and it was reported he might have a weapon.

Sheriff Horton says the man has no warrants for his arrest and there is no evidence he committed a crime.

The text alert was sent out as a precaution.

Reported July 12, 2011 at 2:53 PM CST:  Pittsburg State University has sent a test message to students and faculty warning them to stay away from a wooded area east of the campus.

Crawford County Sheriff Sandy Horton tells us they were looking for a man involved in a domestic dispute and might be armed.

The Pitt Alert system sent the following message at 2:07 PM CST:

“Crawford County Sheriff’s officers are pursuing armed subject east of Campus in wooded area east of RR tracks. Avoid this area until further notice.”
