Gospel music fills the air at George Washington Carver National Monument.

Gospel choirs, musicians and artists sing historic songs

George Washington carver was a historic figure with a passion for botany.

Families learned about various plants to commemorate carver.

Officials say this event helps the community remember a once great scientist famous for inventions like peanut butter.

Jim HeaneySuper Intendant, George Washington Carver National Monument says, “It is a celebration of George Washington Carver. His life, achievements, his legacy. It also celebrates the establishment of the national park in 1943 the first national park dedicated to an African American.”

Today’s event is free of charge.
