More than 100 expected to sign up for construction training program

More than 100 applicants are expected to register for free training tomorrow.

Last week we reported on a construction training program for Joplin residents wanting to rebuild and today the program’s training director, Rick Anderson, says news of the classes have generated more than 200 inquiries.

Laborers’ Local 319 is putting on the three-week course called “Recruit, Train and Employ”, or RTE.

Anderson says construction training isn’t the only thing the program offers.

“RTE’s not just about building, it’s about building character, training people to do something that they haven’t done before,” Anderson says.  “It opens up a lot of opportunities that they may not have had in the past.”

Registration for the program will take place tomorrow at 6 a.m. at Laborers’ Local 319 at 2001 Empire Avenue.
