Pre-enrollment plans for Joplin students

Reported July 11, 2011 at 5:25 PM CST by Zach Fletcher:  Today five school districts surrounding Joplin hosted pre-enrollment sessions to see what the school population might be for the 2011/2012 school year. The Director of Special Services at Carthage School District, Deanna Yokley, said they are expecting any where from 20 to 200 students displaced by the tornado to be relocated to their district...

A warehouse donated to a four-state charity goes into foreclosure, forcing it to pack-up and find another place to store its items. “Boomers Heart” in Nevada, Missouri was given a warehouse, but when the heritage state bank foreclosed on the property, the group was told it had to move. It had used the space to store toys, clothing, and non-perishable food items for Joplin tornado survivors....

As part of the town’s continued recovery, survivors, builders and planners came together to be educated on rebuilding energy efficient, storm resistant homes and businesses.    That was the topic of the “Rebuild Joplin Strong” workshop being held at Missouri Southern.  Tonight’s keynote speaker was involved in the rebuilding of Greensburg, Kansas, which was leveled in 2007...

Public hearing discusses tornado debris removal
The process of nuisance and abatement has begun in Joplin as properties with tornado debris are a topic of a public hearing. The city is taking steps to make sure the expedited debris removal area is cleared on time to receive the 90-10 federal split from FEMA for assistance. In a public hearing Wednesday afternoon, Joplin city council members look at properties deemed a nuisance by city code enforcement...

Medical pilots missing flight path landmarks
One of the lasting images of the May 22 tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri is St. John’s Regional Medical Center and the mangled MedFlight helicopter lying on its side out of commission. Pace says their base in Nevada helped out a lot, flying patients to area hospitals until St. John’s was able to get their other new helicopter. He says making sure they have this service back up is just...
